Samsung Galaxy Nexus – Bringing Android 4.0 to the World

Samsung has just launched Galaxy Nexus, being the first awesome smartphone that is running on Android 4.0.

Galaxy Nexus is a complex device which, by its conformation, will stir debates. He is the main competitor of the iPhone 4S, so in the next phrases we would talk a little about the differences between the two devices.
First, let's start with Apple and how it has its iPhone 4S, with 3.5 inch screen, while Galaxy Nexus comes with a great 4.65 inch screen and a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. This implementation is quite double-edged. Users are impressed by these values and think about the benefits - especially when browsing the Internet, but the larger size implies discomfort when it comes to portability and also of autonomy.
The smartphone has 135.5 mm in length and its width its 67.9 mm. As a comparison, the iPhone 4S is more complex: has 115.2 x 58.6 mm but do not worry, the thickness and weight are close (8.9 mm vs. 9.3 mm, respectively 135 grams vs. 140 grams).
In appearance, his lines are inspired by Galaxy Nexus S, while the back cover is borrowed from the Galaxy S II (probably in an attempt to copy the success of the two models). Sure, iPhone 4S brought nothing new on the design, except for two antenna system designed to prevent the signal drops.
On the hardware section Samsung and Google have stopped on a dual core processor clocked at 1.2 GHz (Cortex A9). The amount of installed RAM is 1 GB and storage space is 16 GB or 32 GB. So Galaxy Nexus will be sold in two versions. In both cases, the internal memory can be expanded using microSD cards.
The connectivity includes, besides the already features HSDPA and Wi-Fi, support 4G/LTE (optional, only for models launched in areas where such infrastructure exists) and NFC technology (Near Field Communications).
Multimedia side is looming around 5 megapixel camera with HD video and panorama shooting, but the complete experience is largely due to the huge screen and the facilities offered by the new Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
One of the premier system is the "Face Unlock" through which we can unlock the phone by simply positioning the front camera next to our face.

Among other facilities, we mention:
  • Google + and online software Google suite (GMail, Google Talk, Maps, Calendar, Docs etc.)
  • Improved multitasking;
  • The ability to resize widgets;
  • Screen capture application;
  • Keyboard and enhanced voice commands;
  • Android Beam - transfer content via NFC (Near Field Communication).
